Bridging the Prüm and relief of the 6th Armored was accomplished
by midnight of the 3rd, and the following morning the Division
began its task of clearing the area between the Prüm and Kyll rivers, the 4th
Infantry Division on its left, the 6th Cavalry Group on the
right.
Had the enemy chose to defend the zone, the 90th's advance might
have proved a costly one since the terrain was one which favored the
defense. Pressure along the entire Third Army front, however, sent the
Germans scurrying back to the east banks of the Kyll. Rearguard action and
roadblocks provided the principal obstacles, and intermittent rains also
made quagmires of the roads.
Task Force Kedrosky, subdivided into Task Force Kelly and Dye, punched
forward through roadblocks and fire fights. Towns, villages, and cities fell
swiftly before the advancing troops. Enemy tanks which ventured to offer
battle were quickly destroyed or put to flight. Moving forward at a pace
unequaled since the drive through France, the Division stood on the west
banks of the Kyll River in less than two days after the assault had begun.
